Harry Kane gave Vincent Kompany's team the lead from the penalty spot in the first half.

Thomas Muller put the game to bed, scoring Bayern’s second on what was his 710th appearance for the club, breaking the record previously held by Sepp Maier. Muller has now scored in an incredible 16 Bundesliga seasons in a row.

The club legend brilliantly brought the ball down from Serge Gnabry's cross and took it past a defender, before firing a powerful volley into the back of the net.

Bayern sit in second place, level on points with leaders Heidenheim, who have a superior goal difference. The Bavarian side are one of only three teams with an immaculate record after two league games, with the leaders and RB Leipzig - in third - also sitting on six points out of a possible six.

Following the international break, Kompany’s side will travel to Holstein Kiel and Freiburg will face Vfl Bochum at home.

Talking Point – Bayern take lead after controversial penalty award following lengthy VAR review

Freiburg will have been disappointed with the referee’s decision to award a penalty for handball during the first half.

Kane met Michael Olise’s excellent cross with his head and the ball deflected off the Freiburg defender Max Rosenfelder and out for a corner.

However, following a VAR review, the referee decided that Bayern were to be awarded a penalty. It was quite a harsh decision as the ball had hit the top of his arm and he had his back to Kane.

The visitors had defended resolutely up to that point and Kane made no mistake from the spot, which sent Kompany’s side on the way to a comfortable victory.
