Champions League draw
The Champions League draw determines the group stage matchups for Europe's premier football competition. Top teams from across the continent are placed into groups, setting the stage for exciting clashes as they compete for a spot in the knockout rounds. The draw is a highly anticipated event, as it can significantly influence a team's path to the final.
Draw overview
On August 29 at 19:00 Kyiv time, the draw for the main round of the Champions League took place in Monaco. Thirty-six clubs will participate in the autumn stage of the Champions League.
This season, there will be no groups in European competitions; instead, a single table with 36 teams will be used. The top 8 teams will advance to the Round of 16, while the clubs that finish in 9th to 24th place will play in the Round of 32.
Opponents for all rounds were determined by a single draw using the Swiss system before the main round began. Before this, the 36 participants were divided into 4 pots of 9 teams each, based on their club rankings.
As a result of the draw, each team will play matches against two other clubs from each pot (one home game, one away game).
The Champions League will feature 8 rounds. Interestingly, for the first time in history, European competition matches will have to be played in January—the final rounds are scheduled for January 21-22 and January 29, 2025.
