Since the tournament's debut in 2017, these tennis icons, once rivals and now friends, have become one of the most memorable aspects of the new team competition. "Seeing my greatest rival and friend Bjorn Borg on the other side, and having my brother by my side, is an incredible experience for me personally," McEnroe shared in Berlin.

Borg and McEnroe have witnessed many highlights over the seven tournaments, including a dramatic victory for Team Europe this year that earned Borg his fifth win. For the players, Laver Cup was a chance to get to know their idols better. "Legend" is the word that comes up most often when participants describe their captains.

For tournament debutants like Flavio Cabolli (Europe) and Alejandro Tabilo (World), it was a chance to learn from the best. "Even a little interaction with Borg means a lot to me," Cabolli said with a smile. Tabilo added: "It's incredible to get advice from someone like McEnroe. I will try to use them throughout my career."

Players who have participated in the tournament more than once are used to interacting with the legends, but they remember their first meetings with them well. Kasper Ruud admitted, "When I first joined the team, I didn't know Bjorn very well, so I was very nervous." Taylor Fritz also noted that it was an incredible experience for him to be around McEnroe: "It's amazing to have him on the bench, he's such a legend".

Alexander Zverev, the most successful player in Laver Cup history, especially appreciates Borg's support, "He's an absolute legend. The fact that he has supported our team for the last seven years is very special." Saying goodbye to such a team evokes strong emotions. "Saying goodbye is not easy," admitted Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Despite the departures of Borg and McEnroe, the future of Laver Cup looks bright. New captains, Yannick Noah for Europe and Andre Agassi for the World, will continue to create new memories. As Laver Cup Chairman Tony Godsick noted, the tournament plays an important role in tennis: "This tournament is a place where players can be around legends like Borg and McEnroe, and that's important to the history of tennis."
